This story started out as one of the worst nightmares you could imagine. We sent our daughter off to college with a decent car. Since she was now over 800 miles away from home, we made sure she took it to an authorized Volkswagen dealership for all maintenance. We believed that by using Jim Ellis Volkswagen, they would help ensure the vehicle stayed in good condition. Somewhere along the way, however, the ball was dropped. The car received routine oil changes and service, but something was missed and the engine eventually failed. The difficult part was that the vehicle had been under warranty during the entire time it was being serviced, but when the engine blew, the aftermarket warranty had expired just three months earlier. That's when things became very frustrating. At first, we were told the repair might be covered, only to later find out that the engine replacement would be entirely out of pocket. We called everyone, including the General Manager, and were basically told there was nothing that could be done. We were facing thousands of dollars in unexpected repair costs. Then Rafael Sandoval reached out. Rafael listened to our concerns and worked out a solution that made sense for both sides. The vehicle was repaired, and the dealership was patient while we worked through getting it paid for and picked up. In the meantime, we had to purchase another vehicle for our daughter. A few weeks ago, we flew to Atlanta and drove the repaired vehicle back to Chicago without any issues. About a week later, however, the car started experiencing another mechanical issue. We took it to a trusted local import car specialist here in the Chicago area and contacted Rafael again. This is where Rafael completely changed my opinion of the dealership. He immediately stepped in, worked directly with the mechanics at the shop, and helped get the issue resolved. He stayed involved and followed through even though the vehicle was no longer at his dealership and the situation could have easily been considered closed. I originally planned to leave a 1 star review and never do business with this dealership again. But after everything Rafael did, they earned 5 stars in my book. They took a horrible situation and made it right, even after it seemed like all hope was gone. Rafael's professionalism, communication, and willingness to help made all the difference. Thank you, Rafael. Your efforts did not go unnoticed.
