So Many Similarities

Our Atlas vs. Tiguan page is designed to point out key features to help you decide which one is right for you and yours. So let's take a look at how both of these SUVs are similar. Both are from the brand you love. So, das ist gut. Both vehicles offer FWD, a 2.0L engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, ADAS safety, touchscreen infotainment, VW Car-Net, and full-length roof rails, standard. Both vehicles offer seating for seven with a third-row. However, the third-row is an option on the Tiguan. You can also find each of them in many of the same colors. Both offer you a lot of the same upgrades and options. From 30K feet, they are almost identical twins. But that said, you don't need to be their mommy to tell them apart.

Born To Stand Out

With size being the obvious variable, let's call out the elephant in the room. The VW Atlas is, of course, bigger than the VW Tiguan. By how much exactly? The Atlas measures 200" in overall length. Which is about 15" longer than the Tiguan. The Atlas also stands 4" taller than the Tiguan at 70". How does this translate into passenger room? You've got 155 cubic feet of passenger volume in the Atlas and 124 cubic feet in the Tiguan. With size comes a little more strength, and the Atlas allows for an optional 276hp V6. The overall length and power in an upgraded Atlas will allow you to tow 5,000lbs, whereas the Tiguan can pull along 1,500lbs (in other words, a trailer with small watercraft). Another key difference is that the Atlas allows for two more trim options, totaling seven. This little Volkswagen Atlas comparison section illustrates that the Atlas isn't so little!

The Atlas vs. Tiguan: Price

Another key factor that might drive your decision with the Atlas vs. Tiguan is the price. The entry point on the Tiguan starts at about $26,440, while the Atlas opens its doors starting at $32,565.1 Each model bumps up by about $2,200 at each trim level with a near-exact price intersection between the VW Tiguan SEL Premium R-Line & VW Atlas SE R-Line. At about $40K1 the Tiguan includes 4Motion AWD, adaptive LED lighting, a panoramic glass roof, Vienna leather seating, upgraded Fender Acoustics, and the full suite of ADAS features, including lane-keep assistance and adaptive cruise control. Two distinct features missing from the Atlas at that price are leather seats and adaptive LED headlights. So, in this case, the VW Tiguan comparison of value is a little greater with its feature-rich spec sheet. That and the Tiguan also offers the R-Line Black package, whereas the Atlas does not.
